Visiting the San Jose Museum of Art

Have you visited SJMA recently? With over 2,500 works of modern and contemporary art in the permanent collection, the San Jose Museum of Art is one of the premier cultural institutions in Silicon Valley. Only 20 minutes from our boutique hotel in Mountain View, it's well worth spending time exploring the art, visiting the cafe, and checking out the gift shop.

Highlighting the most accomplished artists from around the Bay Area and beyond, the museum is known for Mid-20th-century abstraction, new media works, and socially conscious art. Current exhibitions include "Artists in Residence: San Jose's 20th-Century Vanguard" that documents the intersection of art and technology in the 1960s. "Border Cantos" is an exhibit of revealing photographs that offers a human look on the topic of immigration.

Plan to visit on Third Thursdays when admission after 5 pm is only $5 and the galleries stay open until 8 pm. If you get hungry during your visit, swing by the Cafe where you can nibble on sandwiches, soups, salads, and delicious desserts. Take a break and sit indoors or dine al fresco. Before you leave, make sure to stop in the SJMA shop to pick up a few souvenirs or gifts for friends and family back home.
